Finally Seeing a Solution to My VPN Reverse Proxy Issue π
I wanted to share a breakthrough I had with my VPN reverse proxy issue. After watching this super insightful video, I realized that the collisions I kept facing when trying to resolve my local network subnets through the VPN could be mitigated with a travel router. π The beauty of it is that I can easily reconfigure the subnet on the travel router to avoid collisions with my LAN. Problem solved!
In other news, I've been diving into setting up Opnsense and NetBox. π» Here are a few thoughts and experiences:
NetBox Setup
NetBox is pretty powerful, but I was surprised to find out that the setup is fully manual and only supports CSV imports by hand. π€ I read that the authors are quite opinionated about it being the source of truth, which is fair. However, some sort of automated data import would be a nice touch. I'll continue experimenting to see how useful it can be in my setup.
Opnsense Setup
Setting up Opnsense was a bit of a journey. It took a considerable amount of time to finally see the GUI in the browser. The main challenge was figuring out the necessary VLANs. Thankfully, this awesome article saved the day. π
Opnsense has a fairly steep learning curve, but itβs definitely a step in the right direction for organizing my network. I've been meaning to get my head around either Traefik or Nginx Manager as a reverse proxy, and this setup feels like I'm moving closer to that goal. π
Overall, it's been a productive week filled with learning and problem-solving. I still haven't figured out how to effectively route VPN subdomains but I'm getting there.
